Amitabh Bachchan, the ‘superstar’ Angry Young Man of the ’70s and the ‘star’ character actor of recent decades, has been bestowed with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for his immense contribution to the Indian film industry. Incidentally, the 76-year-old actor also completes 50 years in the film industry this year.
Bachchan’s popularity is still unmatched and industry colleagues and friends have poured out their happiness on Twitter on this unanimously selected honour. We spoke to some actors who shared screen with this living legend and wished him more success.
@juniorbachchan: Overjoyed and so, so proud! #ProudSon
@ayushmannk: I’m the most fortunate one who got to work with the living legend. Dear @SrBachchan sir, heartiest congratulations for #DadaSahebPhalkeAward
@ParineetiChopra: Noone, absolutely noone deserves this more. Sir you teach us what work ethic really means, and how to remain motivated, dedicated and kind every single day. Congratulations sir. #DadaSahebPhalkeAward @SrBachchan
@AnushkaSharma: Congratulations sir @SrBachchan on being graced with the #DadaSahebPhalkeAward. You embody inspiration, grace, humility and all things genius. It is truly an honour to have witnessed your work and seen you shine in all your glory.:clap:!
@arjunk26: Many Many congratulations to the Shahenshah of Bollywood @SrBachchan sir for winning the #DadaSahabPhalke award! You are an inspiration to us all!
@AnilKapoor: There is no mention of Indian cinema without this Legend! He has redefined cinema with every role & deserves every accolade for his innumerable contributions! Congratulations @SrBachchan !
@ShatrughanSinha: Heartiest Congratulations to nation’s favourite, living legend, dear friend, great co star @SrBachchan. Delighted that you are being honoured with the most prestigious award of Indian cinema…God Bless!
Rishi Kapoor: Well this is an eventuality waiting to happen. Most well-deserved and well- earned. My heartiest congratulations to Amitji for the very many honours he has been bestowed with. This one will stand by itself too.
Waheeda Rehman: Amitabh is well deserving of this award not only because of his popularity internationally and locally, but also for his hard work.
Hema Malini: Who else can get it, than him? We share a professional rapport. He’s a very nice gentleman, punctual on sets, and helpful to others.
Saif Ali Khan: Amitji is the link between the classical and the modern age of acting. He brought naturalism, class with his comic timing to this field. His discipline is legendary. I grew as an actor when I overcame my nervousness of working with him. He deserves every award. His diction is of Shakespearean depth.
Tabu: I’m tremendously happy about Amitji’s award. His role and presence in Indian cinema is a gift for us!
Raveena Tandon: I feel this (honour) should have come sooner. As a co-star, he’s been amazing. I was always intimidated by his larger-than-life presence. There are some actors, who metamorphose on screen, but with Amitji, what he’s on screen, he’s off it too — always larger-than-life.
celebs hail bachchan
Asha Parekh: I’m thrilled. He deserves it. He has worked hard. He has had a fabulous life, but also had some ups and downs. I’m happy for him.
