Rejected for being tall, Aishwarya Sakhuja is amused by how male actors aren’t called short

Actor Aishwarya Sakhuja has been off the radar for some time now. She had even revealed to us earlier that she would rather sit at home than do something that’s not interesting. But the actor reveals that it’s only now that she has the luxury to take her time in choosing projects.

Initially, before she made a name for herself with shows such as Saas Bina Sasural and Main Na Bhoolungi, bagging projects was a task in itself. “It has been a long journey, and I’ve faced a lot of rejections. I have a ‘don’t give up’ spirit, and have been able to give mooh-tod jawaab to a lot of people. In the past two years, there were shows I didn’t like, and things didn’t materialise,” she says.

Asked the reasons she was rejected on the basis of and she says, “‘You are too tall’— this is one that I have always gotten on TV. I don’t think heroes are told they are short. When it comes to a tall woman, I think we just can’t accept it. It is not in my hands, dude, I can’t cut my legs. You can always make your heroes look taller, and make them wear heeled shoes!”

And that’s not all. Aishwarya adds that there have been more such strange reasons. “I was also told I have lost too much weight. And ‘we need a 15-year-old’— [reasons] as random as that! Things have not worked out on TV for me. Honestly, I am glad I got two years off. I was able to grow as an actor, experience theatre. Had I been doing television, I don’t think I would have got time to do theatre,” adds the actor, who was busy shooting for a travel show, too.
