Didn’t sulk when I had no work, says Pulkit Samrat

He was loved when he was working on the small screen, and became quite popular when he switched to films. Actor Pulkit Samrat definitely had luck on his side. The 35-year-old, however reveals that it wasn’t as if things were always hunky-dory for him.

Pulkit had to wait for three years before he got his Bollywood break, but insists that he doesn’t consider that as his struggling phase. He recalls, “I didn’t have any work at that time [when I had quit TV and was looking for films]. But instead of sitting and sulking about it, I started training myself in action, vocal and dance. Even in those days, the frustration that would come about, I’d channelise it in a positive manner. I feel the need to be prepared because you never know when the opportunity would come your way.”

Today, Pulkit is happy to be known better for his films than his TV shows such as Kyunki… Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi… and Kaho Na Yaar Hai. “Starting from TV and getting to work as a lead in a musical theatrical show [Taj Express with choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant] benefitted me a lot. I got to learn about how everything works behind the scenes. So, when I made my film debut, I was somewhat prepared. I’ve had quite a smooth transition from TV to film,” says Pulkit.

He has done films such as the Fukrey franchise (2013 and 2017), Sanam Re (2016) and Veerey Ki Wedding (2018). More recently, he wrapped up the shoot of Pagalpanti, and will soon begin shooting for Taish, a revenge drama.
