She’s enjoying her ‘just married’ status, and says she doesn’t let societal norms define her life. Actor Aarti Chabria, who recently tied the knot at the age of 36, believes that “there’s no right age to marry” and “it’s never too late to take that decision”.
Aarti, who had an arranged marriage with chartered accountant Visharad Beedassy, says, “You can’t get married because you are at a particular age. I’ve never been one to follow the stereotypes of getting married in 20s. Everybody should have their own individuality, and the right to decide about marriage without feeling pressured. Eventually, your life turns out exactly how you feel about it. So, if you believe things happen for the best and at the best time, they do.”
It isn’t as if there wasn’t any pressure on Aarti to settle down, but she didn’t give in. “I was too focused on my work. I won Miss India Worldwide at 17, did music videos, some 30 films in different languages, participated in reality shows and even gave a series of motivational talks. Right in the middle of my career, I even went and studied film direction at the New York Film Academy. Had I got married earlier, I wouldn’t have been able to do justice to my dreams,” shares Aarti.
The actor emphasises that you should marry “only when you feel ready to share your life with someone and start a family”. She adds, “Sometimes you are ready, but the other person isn’t right, and sometimes the person is right, but you aren’t ready. So, when you’re ready and the person is right, things fall into place. There truly is someone somewhere made for everyone!”
